Legacy: bell hooks was a cultural critic, writer and educator whose work encouraged critical thinking and deeper understanding of social justice and intersectionality. bell hooks was adamant about making theory accessible to the masses and not gate keeping knowledge within the sterile walls of the ivory tower. From bell hooks I learned the power of mapping and weaving connections between all facets of American life from media, music, film, politics, art to global struggles for freedom against interlocking systems of power. Before I knew bell hooks as the world building Black Feminist that she was, I knew her first through my bedtime ritual of reading her children’s book “Homemade Love.” A true protector of children and the sanctity of real true love, bell hooks reminds us of what it means to break free from the chains of white supremacy culture and lay our souls bare for the sake of our interpersonal and communal healing. If you're new to the works of bell hooks, I suggest starting with the pictured Salvation or Feminist Theory.
